Macbeth (Second Witch), Heroic Opera

This July, Julia makes her debut with Heroic Opera as Second Witch in Macbeth - Verdi’s take on the infamous Scottish play by Shakespeare. Stage director Jeanine Fynn and musical director Perri Lo, bring this dramatic tale of ambition and greed to life in this fully-staged production, accompanied by piano and sung in Italian with English translations. Andrew Greenwood stars in the title role along side Melissa Ratcliff as Lady Macbeth.

Faust (Chorus) - Vancouver Opera

During the 3rd annual Vancouver Opera Festival, Julia will appear in the chorus of Gounod’s Faust, a pinnacle of 19th century French opera. Faust sells his soul in return for youth and the love, but by trying to have it all, he loses everything. Gounod’s sensuous and sublimely melodic masterpiece features an all-Canadian cast including David Pomeroy, Marianne Fiset, and Robert Pomakov. Jonathan Darlington returns to conduct the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

Julia Rooney commences 2019 with a new production of Puccini's La Bohème by Canadian designer-director duo André Barbe and Renaud Doucet. Set in the interwar years when artists and writers flocked to Paris to live the bohemian life, Café Momus is full of flamboyant jazz-era figures. In this refreshing look at a much-loved opera, the Vancouver Opera Orchestra is led by Canadian conductor Judith Yan.

Julia Rooney makes her debut with Opera Mariposa as they launch in their 2018-19 season by bringing a classic Mozart opera into the 21st century! In Così fan tutte, love has many faces when an old cynic convinces two young men to test the affections of their girlfriends by formulating an elaborate plot. Don’t miss this rollicking tale of disguise, scandal and romantic antics, set at a beachside resort and brought to life by a talented cast of multi-award-winning artists. With Stage Direction by Robin Hahn and Music Direction by Ian Dives, the production is performed with piano in Italian with English subtitles at Marpole United Church, Vancouver.

Julia Rooney appears in a lavish Art Nouveau production of Franz Lehár's beloved operetta, The Merry Widow (Die Lustige Witwe). Set in the heart of vibrant fin de siècle Paris with elegant ladies, eligible bachelors, and Maxim’s famous can-can dancers, this production is directed by Canadian Kelly Robinson, with Belle Epoque costumes by Susan Memmott-Allred’s, stylish sets by Michael Yeargan, and conducted by rising star conductor Ward Stare.
